Policies

Nationals policies:
National will boost defence spending by $535 million over four years of Budget 2014.
I think this is mostly a good policy because it is providing the police better weaponry and armoury.

National will maintain the Racing Safety Development Fund giving $1 million a year to race clubs around the country.
This is a bad policy because they are providing a race club with money they do not need. Why spend money on things that will not improve our country nor people.

National will give every school high quality ultra-fast broadband and faster broadband to ensure every student can benefit from technology to achieve their best.
I think this will effect us a lot and will improve the learning speed for people who would like to find something that is important.

Labour policies:
Labour will reduce the average size of secondary school classes from 26+ down to 23.
There is a bad and a good policy with this one. They are saving money by making classes smaller but they are spending the money they saved on new and more classes.

Labour will ensure quality care for older New Zealanders with fair pay for aged care workers.
This is a bad thing because most senior citizens are very wealthy.

Labour will provide free annual health checks for people with an intellectual disability.
This is a very effective policy, it is really helpful for the parents and teachers.

Internet MANA policies:

Internet mana think it’s not good enough to just have a job the hours of work and pay per hour are equally important for a family to have a decent standard of living. Internet MANA would work to stabilise hours of work and increase the minimum wage from the $14.25 an hour at present to the living wage, currently $18.80. We would peg the minimum wage at two-thirds of the average wage to prevent it dropping dangerously in the future as it has done in recent decades.
This is a bad policy because if they carry on spending money on their employees that means they could run out of money and get shut down.

  • Every home and business would have cheaper, faster Internet to reap the 21st century benefits of new technology and the Internet for families and businesses. This will eliminate the “digital divide” whereby those on low incomes do not have ready access to the Internet compared to the rest of the community. Internet MANA will invest $50 million over 5 years to give Internet access to all New Zealanders who can’t otherwise afford it. A further $200 million over 5 years will fund community-led investment in improving Internet access for households outside the main cities.
This is very effective policy because some people can loose their jobs if they do not (Email back, create the presentation).

Phrases/words I don't understand:
National will maintain.
maintain = cause or effect.
National will cause or effect something that is going to happen.

Internet MANA will invest.
invest = putting money into finance schemes.
Internet MANA will put money into finance schemes.

We would peg the minimum wage.
peg = a point or limit on a scale especially on exchange rates.
wage = a fixed regular payment.
We would find the point or limit on exchange rates and we will fix the regular payment.
